5 years of Schau aufs Land: Our history, our values, our journey

Schau aufs Land is 5 years old!

Dieses Jahr gab es ein besonderes Jubiläum: 5 years of Schau aufs Land!
Five years full of ideas, encounters, challenges, detours - and a lot of passion. Time to look back and take you with us on our journey.

How it all began

We got to know each other - Leonard, Karin and Christian - at a start-up event in Graz in November 2019. Leonard had presented the initial idea for Schau aufs Land there. Karin was immediately enthusiastic and brought Christian on board - and we quickly realised that we were creating something that would unite us all.

Leonard had worked intensively on sustainable travelling during his studies. The question was: How can we travel without harming the environment - and give something back at the same time? When he discovered this concept of camping on a farm, which originated in France, he immediately realised that it was also needed in Austria.

Our motivation: Camping with responsibility

It quickly became clear what we wanted to change:

• Legally solving the shortage of pitches and the lack of wild camping feeling
• At the same time, make regional agriculture and sustainable businesses visible and support them

No parking space fee - but a purchase in the farm shop, support for farm projects or an honest exchange with the local people.
A concept where everyone wins: Campers, farmers - and nature.

From the first farms to the platform & app

After an intensive development phase with many discussions and ideas, we launched in June 2020 with around 80 partner farms in Austria:

Back then, we still had a self-built web platform and just us as the founding team: Leonard, Karin and Christian. We did everything ourselves - from the first website to partner support, from graphics to accounting.

A big step followed in 2021: the development of our own app - initially together with an agency. A year later, we added Jakob to our team to further develop the app internally and respond even more closely to the needs of our community.

Today, five years later, not only have we personally grown, but so has our network:

• 560 Höfe in Österreich
• 80 in Slovenia
• 210 in Italien
• und seit Kurzem auch: 100 in Süddeutschland

And our team has also grown with us:
In addition to Jakob (app development), Sabrina (marketing & social media) and Maria (partner farm management & cooperations) are now also part of the team.

But the centrepiece remains the same: our community, which supports and lives all of this.

What has shaped us

For us, the best moments are not just major milestones such as our appearance at the 2 minutes, 2 million or the launch of our app - but especially the feedback from the community:

"We had a long chat with the farmer's wife. It wasn't a simple pitch, it was an experience."

Such encounters show us: It works. It touches. It connects.

Of course, there were also challenges: technical breakdowns, difficult collaborations, growing competition. But we learnt to stick together as a team. And looking back, every stumbling block was also a step forwards - true to the motto "failing forwards".

The next step: Hello Germany

We were asked again and again: "Do you also exist in Germany?"
Now the time has come: Our first partner farms in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are online.
A further step towards making sustainable travel accessible to more people - without a language barrier, but with the same philosophy.

What we have in mind

We are constantly developing our app further - because it is now clear that an app like this is never really "finished".
We want to offer you the best possible experience - intuitive, clear and close to the farms. Our network is also constantly growing so that you can discover even more special places.
